Exploring Bimini, Bahamas: A Worthwhile Wellness Weekend

Looking for a weekend getaway that’s only 50 miles outside of Miami? If you answered yes, Bimini, Bahamas is where you want to be! I had the pleasure of attending the 3rd Annual Women’s Wellness Weekend, hosted by Significant Impact, which had our group of 30 women soaking in the serene vibes of Bimini, Bahamas. Last year’s wellness weekend was in Curacao and was amazing. This year’s experience was also one to remember. The allure of Bimini was undeniable, with its beautiful beaches, turquoise water and peaceful environment, making it the perfect backdrop for a weekend dedicated to women's wellness and empowerment.

In true post vacay fashion, I’m recapping my experience at Women’s Wellness Weekend and highlighting things to know about Bimini.

Getting to Bimini

My journey to Bimini started early, as I had a 6am flight out of DCA. Two and half hours later, we arrived in Fort Lauderdale, where the adventure continued with a short connecting flight to Bimini. Upon landing, a brief ferry ride transports you directly to your accommodations. Seeing all the beautiful beach homes during our ferry ride set the tone for a weekend of relaxation and rejuvenation.

Where we Stayed

We stayed at the Hilton at Resorts World Bimini, which proved to be a hub of comfort and convenience. With amenities including several on-site dining options, two swimming pools, a casino, a full-service spa, and a well-equipped fitness center, the resort catered to our weekend needs. It also featured ample conference rooms, which seamlessly accommodated the weekend’s events.

Weekend Recap

Day 1: Arrival and Initial Explorations

  • Afternoon: After checking in that Friday, I got some nourishment with some wings and peas and rice at Hemingways, the bar/restaurant within the casino. The meal was the perfect pick-me-up after the travel day.

  • Evening: Significant Impact hosted a casual, welcome mixer, which allowed for heartwarming reunions and the chance to meet new faces. We concluded our night with a late dinner at the resort's sushi bar, and I enjoyed light, refreshing dishes — miso soup and veggie spring rolls.

Day 2: Deep Dives and Local Discovery

  • Morning: The luxury of sleeping in was exactly what this mama needed! My slow morning also included a delicious buffet breakfast at Tides. The highlight was the made to order omelette station.

  • Noon: Around noon we kicked off the enrichment and conversation portion of the weekend, with the Women’s Wellness Panel. I was honored to be invited back to serve as the panel moderator, and I led a profound discussion on this year's theme, "Restore Yourself and Embrace Your Power." We explored various dimensions of wellness, from spiritual growth and social connections to financial empowerment, setting personal boundaries, and prioritizing joy. I truly enjoyed the rich conversation with the attendees and the panelists, Simona Noce Wright, Jennifer Lucy Tyler and Arial Pegues.

  • Afternoon: No trip is complete without leaving the resort to explore the town, so we went on a tour of North Bimini via golf carts. A visit to the Dolphin House Museum was particularly memorable. This unique, three-story structure, crafted from recycled materials by Bimini native Ashley Saunders, showcases eclectic ocean-inspired art and offers stunning views of the surrounding waters. We event got a chance to chat with Mr. Saunders himself, and I was so very inspired by his story. It was a reminder to me that inspiration is all around us.

  • Late Afternoon: At Bimini Seafood Company & Conch Bar, we indulged in local flavors, good conversation and laughs, and waterfront views.

Day 3: Rejuvenation and Leisure

  • Morning: The day began with an invigorating yoga session and sound bath—perfect for centering the mind and body. I’m so glad I pushed myself to get up and be apart of this much needed session.

  • Day: No visit to the islands is complete without visiting the beach and taking a splash at the pool. Time at the Bimini Beach Club was spent lounging in cabanas, where the stunning beach provided the perfect backdrop. We enjoyed a tasty lunch and cocktails in this picturesque setting, taking a dip in the pool, and of course taking all the pics.

  • Evening: We wrapped up the day at Smitty’s Beach Bar and Restaurant, enjoying a meal of fried snapper while soaking up the good vibes and music and enjoying the company and conversation of fellow attendees.

Day 4: Farewell and Reflections

  • Morning: We concluded our retreat with a leisurely breakfast and some last moments of relaxation by the pool.

  • Afternoon: The rest of the day consisted of traveling back to Maryland.
