The Ultimate DMV Daycation Guide: Luxury Hotels and Spas for the Perfect Pool Day

Sometimes you don't need a vacation, you just need a really good day. As much as I love traveling, I've realized some of the best resets can happen right here near home. A few hours by the pool, a relaxing spa treatment, a delicious lunch, and suddenly it feels like you've escaped without ever leaving town.

Whether you're celebrating a birthday, planning a girls' day, looking for a solo self-care escape, or just want to romanticize an ordinary weekend, a luxury daycation is always a good idea.

A quick note before we dive in. This guide includes a mix of places I've personally experienced and beautiful hotels and spas that are at the top of my daycation wish list. I'll keep updating this post as I check more of these destinations off my list because I fully intend to do the research for all of us.

Washington, DC

Pendry Washington DC – The Wharf

If I could recommend one local daycation without hesitation, it would be the Pendry. I spent the day a couple months ago and absolutely loved it. The rooftop pool overlooks The Wharf, the service is exceptional, and being able to order lunch and a frozen drink without ever leaving my lounge chair was exactly the kind of self-care I needed.

After your pool day, take a stroll along The Wharf and grab dinner at one of the many waterfront restaurants. It makes for the perfect summer day in DC.

Highlights: Rooftop pool, waterfront views, luxury accommodations, walkable restaurants and shops.

Hotel Zena

Hotel Zena has been on my radar for a proper daycation ever since I visited the property a couple years ago. The boutique hotel is known for its rooftop pool and bold, art-filled design, giving it a fun and modern feel. I've visited before, but this time I want to come back, claim a lounge chair, and spend the entire afternoon by the pool.

Highlights: Rooftop pool, boutique hotel, vibrant art, central DC location.

Viceroy Washington DC

The Viceroy has such a chic boutique feel that makes it easy to forget you're still in the middle of the city. Between the seasonal rooftop pool and delicious dining options, it's the kind of place where you can spend the entire day without needing to leave. I've visited before, and a pool day here is definitely on my list.

Highlights: Rooftop pool, stylish atmosphere, upscale dining.

InterContinental Washington D.C. at The Wharf

Located right on The Wharf, the InterContinental combines beautiful waterfront views with one of my favorite neighborhoods in DC. I planned a wedding here during my wedding planning days and remember thinking what a gorgeous property it was. Going back for a relaxing daycation is high on my list.

Highlights: Rooftop pool, waterfront location, multiple dining options, luxury hotel.

Rosewood Washington, D.C.

If rooftop pools are your thing, the Rosewood belongs on your list. The intimate rooftop overlooks Georgetown, making it one of the prettiest settings in the city. Add in incredible dining and five-star service, and it sounds like the perfect place to spend a slow summer afternoon. I'm excited to check this one out.

Highlights: Rooftop pool, Georgetown views, luxury dining, boutique luxury.

Salamander Washington DC

Salamander is one of those hotels that always feels elegant. I've attended an event here and had dinner on the property, but I'd love to come back for a relaxing spa and pool day. It feels like the perfect place to completely unplug for a few hours.

Highlights: Spa, indoor pool, luxury wellness experience, upscale dining.

Argentta Spa at The Watergate Hotel

Sometimes the best daycation starts at the spa. Argentta Spa offers luxurious treatments along with access to wellness amenities that make it easy to spend the entire day relaxing. This is another spot that's high on my list.

Highlights: Luxury spa, indoor pool, wellness amenities, iconic hotel.

Four Seasons Hotel Washington, DC

The Four Seasons has long been one of DC's most iconic luxury hotels. Between the spa, indoor pool, and exceptional dining, it checks all the boxes for an elevated daycation. It's another one that's earned a spot on my must-visit list.

Highlights: Indoor pool, luxury spa, fine dining, Georgetown location.

Maryland

Four Seasons Hotel Baltimore

If you're willing to take a short drive to Baltimore, the Four Seasons looks like the ultimate luxury escape. The rooftop infinity pool overlooking the harbor is calling me, and I've heard nothing but amazing things about the service and dining.

Highlights: Rooftop infinity pool, harbor views, luxury spa, waterfront dining.

Gaylord National Resort

The Gaylord has everything you need for an easy escape without traveling far from home. I spent a weekend here for one of my daughter's birthday, and we had such a great time. I'd love to go back for a slower day enjoying the pool, restaurants, and beautiful National Harbor waterfront. There are so many places to walk, shop, and eat nearby that it's easy to turn your pool day into an all-day outing.

Highlights: Resort pool, National Harbor location, spa, waterfront dining.

Northern Virginia

Salamander resort (Middleburg)

If you're willing to venture a little farther outside the city, Salamander Middleburg looks like the ultimate luxury escape. Between the spa, beautiful grounds, horseback riding, and resort amenities, this one has been on my list for years.

Highlights: Luxury resort, spa, pools, equestrian experiences, countryside setting.

Balian Springs

If your idea of a perfect daycation revolves around wellness and relaxation, Balian Springs belongs on your list. This luxury wellness retreat is designed to help you slow down, recharge, and unplug with a variety of thermal pools, saunas, steam rooms, and tranquil spaces. Instead of spending the day poolside with a cocktail, you're trading it for hydrotherapy, quiet moments, and a little self-care.

I haven't had the chance to visit yet, but I've heard so many great things that it's quickly climbed to the top of my list. It feels like the perfect destination when you need to reset without booking an overnight stay.

Highlights: Thermal pools, hot and cold plunges, saunas, steam rooms, wellness experiences, on-site dining.

Lansdowne Resort

Nestled in Northern Virginia wine country, Lansdowne feels like a true resort getaway. I stayed here about 16 years ago, so I'm definitely overdue for another visit. From the pools to the spa and beautiful grounds, it seems like the perfect place for a relaxing day outside the city.

Highlights: Resort pools, spa, golf, scenic grounds, multiple restaurants.

The Ritz-Carlton, Tysons Corner

The Ritz-Carlton is perfect for those days when you want to unwind without traveling too far. Its spa, indoor pool, and upscale atmosphere make it an easy choice for a luxurious day of self-care. It's another property that's high on my list.

Highlights: Indoor pool, luxury spa, upscale dining, Tysons location.

Tips for Planning Your DMV Daycation

Before you book, here are a few things I've learned along the way:

  • Check out ResortPass for cabana rentals, day passes, day rooms, spa treatments and more. They feature tons of hotels and properties and offer affordable rates for all your daycation needs. Enjoy $20 off your first booking here to access to the best hotel pools and spas for the day.

  • Another options is to check whether the hotel itself offers day passes or pool access with a spa treatment.

  • Weekdays are usually less crowded and often less expensive.

  • Try to reserve your lounge chair or cabana at least a couple weeks in advance to ensure availability.

  • Make a full day of it by pairing your pool time with lunch, dinner, or a spa treatment.

  • Don't forget the sunscreen, a good book, your favorite sunglasses, and a cute swimsuit because photos are definitely part of the experience.

One of my goals this year is to embrace more joy without always waiting for a vacation. Sometimes that looks like booking the flight. Other times, it looks like treating myself to a pool day just a few miles from home.

The DMV is full of beautiful hotels and spas that make it easy to escape for the day, and I can't wait to continue working my way through this list. As I visit more of these properties, I'll come back and update this guide with my experiences.

If you have a favorite local daycation spot that I should add to my list, let me know. I'm always looking for my next excuse to spend the day by the pool.

Until next time, keep going, growing and glowing!
