5 Daily Reminders for Showing Up Intentionally For Me

It’s Tip Tuesday, and today I’m talking about how I’m intentionally showing up for me in this season — and how you should, too. This was actually one of our discussion topics at the last Fourth Friday’s with Friends. For July, I decided to move my monthly Instagram Live series to an actual in-person meetup, and what a great idea that was! The meetup was everything I hoped for and so much more — good vibes, good company, good conversation and good food. If you missed it, not to worry, I will definitely do more meetups in the future. Also, if you miss the Instagram lives, not to worry, I’ll still be hosting those, too — just not every month.

Showing up for ourselves is so important, and doing it with intention is key. Sometimes, we show up for everyone and everything else, to only save the leftovers for ourselves. It’s timeout for that! We should be our own number one priority, and we shouldn’t feel guilty about it or make excuses for not prioritizing ourselves. I’m currently focusing in on the following five ways to show up for me — no matter what:

HONOR MY PRESENT SELF AND THE PRESENT MOMENT

We are wonderful just the way we are. Sometimes, we can get so caught up in the future version that we envision for ourselves, that we lose sight of how awesome we already are and the great things we've already been blessed with. Celebrate you — just as you are, flaws and all. Also, savor your everyday moments. Stop and smell the roses. Don't wish for the next moment so much that you don't enjoy the present one.

Example - One way I’m doing this is fully savoring even regular moments. The other day while cooking, I turned the TV off, put some of my favorite music on the speaker, and danced in the kitchen while cooking. It turned out to be the most enjoyment I had that day, and I felt so happy. I actually wasn’t feeling my best earlier that day, but felt just fine while I was in my cooking and dancing zone, not worried about anything else.

CELEBRATE MY WINS

We should be our own biggest cheerleaders. Let’s get in the habit of celebrating our small and big wins often — the personal ones and the professional ones. Write them down. Share them with others. While humility is a good quality, celebrating yourself is also a good thing. Do more of that. You're bomb — own it!

Example - Today, I’m celebrating this blog post! It’s been 2 months since my last blog post, but instead of focusing on that hiatus, I’m celebrating that I’m back in the saddle. I’m celebrating sharing my story and lessons, and hope they inspire others.

DO MORE OF WHAT MAKES ME HAPPY

Children often experience several moments of happiness daily, in part because they don't have many responsibilities like adults. Despite the many, sometimes burdensome, responsibilities that come with adulting, life should be enjoyed daily. We have the power to create the lives we desire. Find time and ways to do more of what makes you happy. Ditch the excuses and cultivate more joy.

Example - While achieving my goals brings me so much joy, enjoying leisure also makes me so happy. I love moments where I don’t have responsibilities and just enjoy something fun or relaxing. Lately, I’ve been making time to enjoy some great stuff on TV at night. Making the Cut on Amazon is my new fave. I was a huge fan of Project Runway during the Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn era, so I love having them on this new show. I’m rooting for Andrea Pitter-Campbell! I also watched all 3 seasons of Manifest, which was wildly entertaining. I’m learning that all work and no play is no kind of life.

BALANCE RUNNING AND RESTING

Being ambitious doesn't have to mean you're a workaholic, and taking breaks doesn't have to mean you are lazy. Finding the balance between running and resting is not always easy, but our pursuit of our goals and wellness are important.

Example - I work so hard and wear many hats, so it’s extra important for me to make time to rest. Lately, I’ve been going to bed at a decent time, taking cat naps when I’m worn out, and honoring my days off. For the summer, I work Monday - Thursday, and I’m off on the weekends (outside of events). I’m so proud of myself for doing this because it’s so easy for me to stay on the workaholic hamster wheel. My ultimate goal is to hire more help, so I can keep this up as a permanent lifestyle.

AFFIRM AND BELIEVE

Our words and thoughts have power, which is why we have to speak well of ourselves and think well, too. Affirm yourself and believe in yourself.

Example - Daily affirmations are my jam! My favorite one is you are equipped. When I’m feeling overwhelmed, I love saying this one or you got this. I’m working on my mindset more than ever in this season and believing for big things!

I hope these 5 simple daily reminders help you show up for yourself intentionally in this season, too. What others would you add to this list? Let me know in the comments.

Have a glowing day!
