What Seeds Are You Sowing?

What seeds are you sowing? A good question to ask ourselves often. Sowing and reaping is a concept I was introduced to as a young girl in church. Now as an adult my mindset on it has broadened.

I’m no gardener (yet), but I just started a small rosemary, basil and oregano indoor garden. it’s crystal clear that no harvest comes without first planting a seed. Even once you plant the seed, you have to water it and wait in order for it to grow. The results are not immediate — they take time. In our microwave world, some of us want everything and fast, but don't want to do or work for anything. However, in life there isn’t always an elevator, sometimes you have to take the stairs.

Since August is always kind of like my personal new year because of my birthday, so far this month I've been focusing on being more intentional about what I'm sowing in all facets of life. If we're being honest, I'm sure we all have been disappointed before when we didn't harvest the fruit we expected. In reflecting on it we have to focus inwardly on what we sowed or didn't sow. I have so many big dreams, but none of those dreams will be realized if I'm not sowing the research, the hard work, the prayers and petitions to God, the getting out of my head and comfort zone.

START SOWING

What is God calling you to do during your time here on Earth? What are your dreams? How do you want to show up in your home and in the world? How do you want to show up for yourself? Where do you see your future self? What legacy do you want to leave? What things do you want to explore? What impact do you want to make? These questions and more are questions to ask ourselves. As the answers begin to come, we can’t assume that will magically manifest. God is a great God who is able to do exceedingly, abundantly, and above all we could ask or thing; however, that doesn’t mean that we get a pass to be lazy and wait for blessing to drop from the sky. We have to do our part. So starting today, I’m challenging all of us to start sowing. With intention. With wisdom. With heart. Start planting the seeds for the fruit you want to produce. Take it a step further and use a journal or google doc to jot down all the seeds you’re sowing and the date, so you can look back on it later when it’s harvest time.

If you want to build a six figure business, you can plant a seed today by starting a business plan. If you want to build a career motivating millions of women, you can plant a seed today by sending a thoughtful card to your neighbor or sharing a motivating word to a friend. If you want to show up as a less anxious person, you can plant a seed today by scheduling a therapy appointment. The point is to start. Each small step or small seed will ultimately grow as you cultivate it.

Cultivating the seed is key! You can’t just plant one seed one day, forget about it, and think it’s going to grow. That’s the mistake I made when I started Sensational Soirees. I created the business plan, filed the LLC, set up a website, and then sat down, waiting for customers to come. Well, those customers didn’t come. I had to water the seeds. I had to get more education, get more experience, push the creative envelope, market and network, and work my butt off! Then the fruit came — after I put in the work.

What I've also learned is to stop expecting things that yourself don't give. Now sure, we all want to be millionaires but unless you already are one you can't give a million dollars to something. But it's a lot we can do. If you want people to support your business, make sure you are genuinely supporting others (start with that inner circle and branch out). Support is not always monetary either — just show up how you can for others, and watch how the support will start coming your way. Sometimes it will come from those you've supported and other times from complete strangers.

Sow seeds of kindness, seeds of support, seeds of generosity, seeds of prayer, seeds of hard work and more. Do it genuinely and with heart! Remember, there is no harvest without the seed first. So I’ll ask again, what seeds are you sowing? Share below and let’s encourage one another.

Have a glowing day!
