Back to Basics: My September Reset
After a full summer of travel, birthdays, family fun, and intentional rest, I’m officially back to blogging. I call it my “summer blog break,” and honestly, it was needed. I love creating and showing up for this community, but sometimes you need to step back, breathe, and reset.
Breaks matter. They give us the space to recharge, to actually enjoy the moments we’ve been working so hard to create, and to come back with fresh energy and focus. And just like I took time away from blogging this summer, I believe in the importance of building smaller resets into everyday life too.
One of my favorite examples? Taking a day off after vacation. That one buffer day makes all the difference. Instead of rushing straight back into emails, work, and laundry, I give myself time to reset the house, reacclimate to real life, and ease back into my rhythm. That intentional pause keeps me from feeling overwhelmed and helps me carry the joy of vacation into my everyday.
Summer Highlights
This summer was a full one, filled with memories big and small. A few highlights:
A trip to Tulum with my husband (would definitely visit again)
Local winery dates and simple joys like family brunch in Annapolis after church
Hersheypark and Hershey Lodge adventures
Fresh flowers always in the house
Hosting three get-togethers at home, including my 41st birthday celebration
Skincare and makeup play, plus a glorious facial at Spa on the Hill
The Beyoncé Cowboy Carter tour with my daughter
Quality time and fun with my husband and kids
Teaching an entrepreneurship workshop for high school seniors
Fun with summer fashion and staying in braids
A trip to Atlanta for the Woman Evolve Conference
New restaurants like Rumhouse and plenty of grill days courtesy of my husband
Supporting my daughter’s bracelet business and watching her win a pitch competition
Meaningful connections with friends
Creating short-form content and landing some amazing brand collaborations
Getting the kids ready and back to school
It was a beautiful season. And now, I’m ready to reset.
Back to Basics
Now that we’ve turned the page into September, it feels like the perfect time for a fresh start of my own. A grown-woman back-to-school season.
But here’s the thing: my reset doesn’t look like overhauling my entire life. It looks like getting back to the basics that I know ground me, but sometimes slip away in the busyness of holding it all together.
For me, that means:
Cooking more meals at home (because eating out all August was fun, but I love being in my kitchen and know it’s better for my family)
Moving my body in ways that feel good (yoga and stretching, not forcing routines I don’t enjoy)
Cleaning my closet (because getting dressed should be fun, not stressful)
These might sound small, but they’re the simple practices that help me feel more steady, aligned, and at ease.
And that’s the heart of this month’s theme: Back to Basics.
When we simplify and reclaim the fundamentals — whether it’s meal planning to fight decision fatigue, making time for prayer, getting back to movie nights, or just drinking more water — we create rhythms that support us at the next level.
Your Back-to-School Blueprint
Step 1: Your “Remember When” Audit
Think back to 3 simple practices you used to do consistently that made you feel good. Write them down.
Step 2: Pick Your Power Basic
Choose one or two. Not everything. Just a couple of things to reclaim this month.
Step 3: Make It Ridiculously Simple
Start small so it actually sticks.
Want to cook more? Prep just two meals on Sunday.
Want to move more? Commit to 10 minutes after your morning coffee.
Need better sleep? Try a quick wind-down: phone down, tea poured, five minutes of gratitude.
Step 4: Add Some Back-to-School Energy
Kids get excited about fresh supplies. Do the same. Grab a new journal, playlist, or even just a cozy blanket that makes your new habit feel fun.
Here’s what I know: basics aren’t boring when you choose them with intention. They’re what help us show up steady, grounded, and ready for whatever the next level holds.
So this month, I’m inviting you to join me in getting back to basics. Don’t wait for January. Start small. Start now.

Until next time, keep going, growing and glowing!
